Support for the position of Darul Uloom Deoband

We praise Allah and send blessings upon His noble Messenger (SAW)

We fully endorse word for word the position expressed by Darul Uloom Deoband regarding the thoughts and views of Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Saad Sahib Kandhlawi. We also request the general Muslims to refrain in their statements and meetings from those things which the scholars and muftis of Darul Uloom Deoband have declared forbidden.

They should strive to follow the guiding principles laid down by Hazrat Maulana Shah Muhammad Ilyas Sahib, Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Yusuf Sahib and Hazrat Maulana Inamul Hasan Sahib for carrying out this lofty work of Da’wa and Tabligh free from all kinds of extremism and negligence.

It should be clear that Darul Uloom Deoband’s position is not against Da’wa and Tabligh, rather Darul Uloom Deoband has drawn the attention of moderate-minded and serious important officials associated with preaching and propagation that we should all try to keep this group established by our elders on the right path of the majority of the ummah and the previous responsible elders.

Expression of position by respected scholars regarding the current disagreement in the work of Tabligh

Praising Allah, sending blessings and peace. After that:

The global religious movement of Da’wah and Tabligh started by our respected predecessor Hazrat Maulana Ilyas Sahib is currently going through an extremely unfortunate situation, dispersal and confusion, and strange kinds of trials. Due to this, most of the senior scholars and spiritual leaders around the world are expressing great sorrow and pain. It is the heartfelt desire of all of us and all the respected scholars and spiritual leaders of the world that this work, which has been going on for eighty (80) years in a manner worthy of envy with complete collectiveness, unity of speech, unity of hearts, unity of thought, obedience to consultation, and mutual respect, trust, affection and love, should continue to remain alive and vibrant until the Day of Judgment, and that the faith and belief of the Muslim Ummah should continue to be protected by its blessings.

However, at this time, dispersal and disagreement have spoiled this entire aspect. The main reason for this disagreement is that until now, objectionable and corrupting statements were coming from some general members of this group, which were being criticized from time to time and to some extent were also being corrected. But now for some time, such statements have started coming from some responsible people of this group, especially Janab Maulana Saad Sahib, which has worsened the situation further.

Therefore, the fundamental issues of Maulana Muhammad Saad Sahib Kandhlawi that have caused this work to fall into disarray are briefly as follows:

  1. Running this blessed and extensive work spread throughout the world based solely on his personal opinion and thoughts, without the consultation and consensus of a designated consultative group (who have benefited from the company of previous senior Tabligh leaders), and forcefully imposing it on those who do not agree.
  2. Deviating from the old methodology of this work (which the three elders Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Sahib, Maulana Yusuf Sahib, and Hazrat Ji Maulana Inam Ahsan Sahib had established in light of the Quran, Sunnah, and the way of the Companions) without consultation, and using the excuse of bringing the work to the way of the Companions while relying on extremely weak and baseless arguments.
  3. In his speeches, deviating from the creed and beliefs of the majority of the scholars of the Ummah and Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama’ah, imbalance in the division of da’wah, thoughts and ideas deviating from the people of truth, incorrect interpretation and distortion of verses and hadiths, disrespect and accusations against the Prophets (peace be upon them), critical comments on jurisprudence and jurists, belittling other branches of religion, etc.

These are the main reasons for disagreement. To address this, Haji Abdul Wahab Sahib from the neighboring country, who had benefited from the company of Maulana Ilyas Sahib, in the presence of Janab Maulana Muhammad Saad Sahib and old responsible friends from all over the world, implemented the Shura system established by Hazrat Ji Maulana Inamul Hasan Sahib on the occasion of the gathering in Raiwind. This included, besides Maulana Saad Sahib from our country, Maulana Ibrahim Dewla Sahib, Maulana Muhammad Yaqub Sahib, Maulana Ahmad Laat Sahib, Maulana Zubair Akhan Sahib. They decided to run this work through a consultative system, which everyone agreed to except Maulana Saad Sahib, who clearly refused.

The old friends of the work and scholars who had benefited from the company of the previous three elders (Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Ibrahim Dewla Sahib, Hazrat Maulana Yaqub Sahib, Hazrat Maulana Ahmad Laat Sahib, Maulana Ismail Godhra Sahib, Haji Farooq Ahmad Sahib, Dr. Khalid Siddiqui Sahib, Professor Shauullah Sahib, etc.) tried for a long time to resolve this issue through understanding and discussions in their gatherings. But when no improvement occurred, the elders of Tabligh present in Banglewali Masjid, Basti Nizamuddin, New Delhi, and around the world, out of fear of accountability before Allah, separated from the Markaz and …

clarified their position and the reality of the situation before the entire Ummah, so that they could save the rest of the Ummah from misguidance. They clearly stated that until there is a change in the current situation at the Nizamuddin center, and until Maulana Saad Sahib accepts the Shura system and corrects the aforementioned issues, they will remain separate from him and continue to strive to keep this blessed work on its correct path from their respective places, InshaAllah.

However, when the general public and elite from all over the world turned to Darul Uloom Deoband and global spiritual leaders and senior scholars for the correction of this deteriorated situation, and asked questions about Maulana Saad Sahib’s thoughts and ideas that deviate from the people of truth, and demanded a clear and explicit position on this matter, these respected individuals, after a complete review of the entire situation, issued their position and fatwa in clear and unambiguous terms, considering it their religious duty.

This was necessary because most of the new class associated with the Tablighi Jamaat (who have not benefited from the previous elders) mostly quote only Maulana Saad Sahib’s words, which has created a severe risk that the entire group might fall into misguidance, and then religious scholars and jurists of the strong Shariah might declare this group a misguided sect.

Darul Uloom Deoband criticized Maulana Saad Sahib Kandhlawi and others for their arbitrary interpretations of the Quran and Sunnah, incorrect beliefs and ideas, and weak and inappropriate arguments. While strongly supporting the work of Da’wah and Tabligh, they also advised that the moderate and serious-minded important officials of the Jamaat who have influence should strive to keep this blessed and fortunate work on the path of the majority of the Ummah and the previous senior responsible members of Tabligh, while respecting the Shariah and Sunnah. Before this, in their letter, they had also hinted at the consultative system.

Many madrasas in the country (such as Mazahir Uloom Saharanpur, Jamia Talimuddin Dabhel Gujarat, madrasas in Tamil Nadu, UP, and others) endorsed and verified these fatwa letters to protect this work from deviant deviations. May Allah reward them well.

We, all the scholars of Karnataka state, fully agree with the fatwa of Darul Uloom Deoband, the decision of the global consultative body, and the opinion of our responsible friends and senior scholars who have separated from Banglewali Masjid, Basti Nizamuddin. We fully support their initiative that they have taken the right step to save this religious and da’wah work from misguidance and for its reform. We, all the scholars who have spent years, four months, and chilla (40-day retreats), and all the people of knowledge and madrasas who agree with the effort of da’wah, appreciate these decisions, fully support them, and assure our complete cooperation. Because if this group falls into misguidance, we too will be held accountable in the court of Allah, the Lord of the worlds, and our silence at this time will become a cause for regret.

Along with this, we request all the general public and elite to agree with the decisions of these scholars and elders, to remain steadfast on the advice of the global consultative body, and to continue working peacefully and without discord while remaining connected to the responsible individuals of their state.
